A woodland, specifically the gallery forest of cottonwoods, willows, and other riparian trees growing along rivers in the arid Southwest. The bosque is the desert's oasis in linear form โ a green ribbon of shade and shelter following the water. The Rio Grande bosque from Albuquerque to Socorro is the archetype.

Spanish, meaning forest or woods, from Latin boscus.
