charm

A flock of goldfinches. The birds move in loose, undulating groups, flashing gold and black, calling constantly — the sound is the charm, a murmuring enchantment.
Etymology
From the Book of St. Albans (1486). Middle English charme, from Old French, meaning a song or incantation. A charm of finches is a spell cast in birdsong.
